Sandy is home for me, and I think it’s one of the best places to live in the Salt Lake Valley. My husband and I both grew up in Sandy, and we ended up buying a home smack in the middle of where we each grew up, right here in the heart of Sandy. Where else can you wrap up your workday and be on a mountain trail before dinner?
Trails right in your backyard. Sandy sits right up against the Wasatch Mountains, and some of the valley’s favorite hikes start here. Rocky Mouth Falls is a short, steep little hike off Wasatch Boulevard that ends at a 30-foot waterfall tucked behind a neighborhood. Up the road, the Bell Canyon Preservation Trailhead has plenty of parking, year-round restrooms and a paved loop for all abilities, and it’s about a half mile up to Lower Bell Canyon Reservoir, with a waterfall farther up for the more adventurous. At the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon, the Temple Quarry Trail is an easy paved loop through the spot where pioneers quarried granite for the Salt Lake Temple. A few miles up the canyon, Gloria Falls is a gorgeous granite cascade off the White Pine Trailhead. And right in the middle of town, Dimple Dell Regional Park has 630 acres and more than 15 miles of trails for walking, biking and horseback riding.
World-class skiing, minutes away. Little Cottonwood Canyon starts at Sandy’s east edge, so Snowbird and Alta are practically in your backyard. It’s my favorite canyon, summer or winter!
Fun for the whole family. The Sandy Amphitheater is one of my favorite spots in Sandy. It’s an outdoor venue with the mountains right behind you, and the summer concert lineup is always good. We saw The Piano Guys there and loved it! You can also catch Real Salt Lake or the Utah Royals at America First Field, see a show at Hale Centre Theatre, or hop on TRAX to head downtown. Sandy is part of Canyons School District, home to Alta High and Jordan High.
A great place to gather. Amphitheater Park, right next to the Sandy Amphitheater, is one of our favorite spots. The splash pad has seven waterfalls and a shallow little river the kids love, there’s tons of grass and shade, and on Monday evenings in the spring, summer and early fall it hosts Sandy’s Food Truck Nights. Sandy also has a farmers market, free Movies in the Park, the Balloon Festival and a big Fourth of July celebration. See what’s coming up on Sandy City’s Community Events page.
Thinking about Sandy? I’ve helped lots of families buy and sell here, especially in the Granite area near the mouth of Little Cottonwood. Whether you want a foothill home with mountain views or something close to the freeway, I’d love to help you find your spot.
