Salt Lake City is really a collection of very different neighborhoods, and picking the right one matters more here than anywhere else in the valley. If you're starting residency or fellowship at University of Utah Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute or Primary Children's, the Avenues keep you a short drive from the hospitals, on a grid of lettered streets lined with historic homes, with walks up City Creek Canyon from Memory Grove. Buyers who want an older home with real character land in Yalecrest or near 9th and 9th, where neighbors walk to Coffee Garden and Dolcetti Gelato and East High, the High School Musical school, sits on the East Bench. Sugar House mixes bungalows with newer condos along the S Line streetcar, Sugar House Park's sledding hills fill up the minute it snows, and Highland High next door hosts the Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts. On the west side, Rose Park and Glendale sit along the Jordan River Parkway, with the 17th South Canoe Marina close by. Prices span a wide range: in October 2026, homes under $400,000 sold at a median near $338,000, while homes over $700,000 sold at a median near $952,000.
